Data published by Eurostat show that trade in electric and hybrid vehicles in the EU grew significantly from 2017-2022.In 2022, 42% of total EU imports of vehicles were electric or hybrid vehicles, up 35% from 2017, and 26% of total exports of vehicles in 2022 were electric or hybrid vehicles, up 24% from 2017. By type, non-plug-in hybrids rise from 6% of total vehicle imports and 0.4% of total exports in 2017 to 21% and 13% respectively in 2022; all-electric vehicles account for 1% of both total EU vehicle imports and exports in 2017, rising to 15% of total imports and 9% of total exports in 2022; and plug-in hybrids account for 1% of both total imports and total exports, rising to 7% and 4% respectively in 2022. In terms of value, the total value of EU imports of hybrid and electric vehicles from non-EU countries is €37 billion in 2022, up 27% year-on-year, with imports of non-plug-in hybrids valued at €16 billion, followed by all-electric vehicles (€12.6 billion) and plug-in hybrids (€8.4 billion). The total value of exports of hybrid and electric vehicles to non-EU countries amounted to 59.1 billion euros, an increase of 41% year-on-year, with exports of non-plug-in hybrid vehicles totaling 28.5 billion euros, all-electric vehicles totaling 22.4 billion euros, and plug-in hybrid vehicles totaling 8.1 billion euros.
